A Life Of Comparisons – bluebook WHISPERS

Don’t compare yourself to others BREAK the cast, mold, redefine the canon of your experience.

Use words within sentences that have no meaning.

Forget being a trendsetter, be the TREND.

Yes, we’ve all heard many variations of the “Be your own_______ speech.

It’s a good one, I buy into daily. But it’s not the speech that has me writing.

It’s what motivates the speech:

A Life of Comparisons

GO ahead, say it: I don’t compare myself to anyone?

You’re a liar.

How do I know this, because you have a bluebook account.

IF BY SOME BEAUTIFUL SENSE OF WILL AND PURPOSE YOU DON’T: YOU’RE MY S/HERO.

I use bluebook, in fact you probably saw my post or an update on your notification timeline and now your here.  Technology, social networks all wonderful. It’s not bad, but the way we assign happiness, success and failure to bluebook is the dangerous part.

I’m not a very active user of bluebook. But when I do I log-on, I’ve begun  notice this nasty little comparison habit rears its ugly head. I see it in my friends timeline, they call me and complain about, strangers harass you via messenger about your political views, your comment on their girlfriends page and all types of nonsense and shenanigans.

The whispers always begin:

She is prettier, skinnier

He is rich, good-looking, light-skinned

She has long hair, she went to Belize with her Austrian boyfriend, wow!

He published a book, he wrote a Grammy-award winning song

She’s in love, in a relationship, with her..?

He commented on her page and hasn’t even wrote on mine?

I’m alone, a little overweight, I wish I had better clothes, I want to go to Belize.

My personal favorite, which I hear all the time:

DID YOU SEE MY POST?

ME: yes.

YOU DIDN’T LIKE IT?

ME: yes, I did.

WHY DIDN’T YOU LIKE IT ON bluebook?

ME: really?

…..The bluebook whispers

They seep into your mind and normal reasonably happy occurrences somehow are no longer good enough.

You find yourself feeling sick and sad. Confused because you felt great five minutes ago before the whispers.

You begin to dust off that grad school application in desk drawer.

But you imagine all the LIKES when your status says: ACCEPTED, ENROLLED in ________GREAT UNIVERSITY for ___________AWESOME DEGREE!

You smile on the inside from this daydream. You start the application again, and remember you hate school. Your student loan debt is high enough and you don’t have a rich Austrian fiance to take care of you.

The bluebook Whispers, a life in comparison.

Log-out of bluebook and Log into your perfectly, beautiful, and amazing life.

That’s it!
